LA Laker Matt Barnes Arrested on Suspicion of Domestic Violence

Lakers forward Matt Barnes was arrested and booked Wednesday night into Sacramento County Main Jail on a domestic violence charge and for allegedly obstructing the use of a telephone line, according to a report in the Sacramento Bee.

The story says deputies determined that Barnes and a woman believed to be his girlfriend had a physical confrontation, that Barnes prevented her from talking to 911 operators and that both had visible injuries. Barnes is scheduled to appear in court Monday, according to the report, and posted a $50,000 bond before being released around 9:40 p.m.

The Lakers signed Barnes this off-season to a two-year deal, partly because of his work ethic and defensive toughness. Since then, there have been reports that he slapped an opposing team's assistant coach during a summer league game.

[UPDATED: 12:05 a.m.: According to ABC News 10's website, Barnes told News10's Bryan May, "I was the victim but still got arrested." The report also states that Barnes also texted May, "U know any domestic violence situation 9 outa 10 times the man gets arrested. That's the case here I was the victim but still got arrested. No matter what I say people are gonna think what they want..." Barnes also posted the following on his Twitter page, ""DON'T LET YOUR EARS WITNESS, WHAT YOUR EYES DIDN'T SEE!!!]
